About this deal

If kids want to dig in Lego, they've probably got a box full of parts to dig in that'll work much better than a few pieces included here. Children can explore the authentic cabin and control panel to recreate everyday life on a construction site with this cool excavator.

uses two knobs on the rear, both driving worm gear setups, to move the arm via linkages instead of linear actuators.I did not expect such a small model divided into four building stages, but it turned out to be a very relaxing build. They mention it's a quality product, very nice build, excellent Lego product, and enjoyable to put together. As for the model’s inability to pick up the parts provided, looks like you’ve got the scoop on that! Given that a good deal of current sets aren't designed to be taken apart, they'd be superfluous anyhow.

This 569-piece set brings back mini-scaled construction machines and uses a bunch of newly-introduced pieces for its neat design. Its surprisingly study as well and has survived many fights with my twins girls who are both fascinated with lego now. However, in the case of the set under review, the very proportions of the boom make it impossible to “close” the bucket and raise the boom without spilling the cargo.Obviously, a fully transparent element would suit better, but I like to see the designers making the best of what they have available at the movement. There are 4 cones to manage the building site, plus extra LEGO pieces to use as bricks for scooping up with the digger truck toy. Though again, I may sound like a hypocrite saying I'll get this set anyway in spite of that, but that's because I don't let a single glaring issue turn me away from a set entirely. Were it covered with panels, it would be way too heavy-looking for the model (see 8043 Motorized Excavator for a reference). It looks good for what it is, the design is neat with little holes in the main body and the B model looks good also.

Are you looking for a gift for children who love construction machines The LEGO Technic hydraulic excavator (42121) makes boys and girls aged 8 and over. Also, as usual, the tracks don't move if you're pushing it on a smooth surface (table, hard floor, etc).I hope these soft plastic tracks survive over time as I have always had problems with these breaking in the past at the connection, which is why TLG moved onto the larger stronger solid plastic grey ones in the previous version 8294. A proper piece of construction machinery is imaginable without a whole bunch of warning signs and markings, hence a moderate-sized sticker sheet. I can see how a second copy of this set could be converted easily into a Pipe Layer, similar to the Volvo one.
