About this deal

I've worked hard over the last several years to earn this position and now it's time for me to work even harder to keep it. In reality, though, there are differences in sound as well and the HE6SE v2 is a more balanced, better all-rounder version. Midrange is brighter and emphasises trumpets and violins more, making them really pop out, but it doesn’t have the same level of detail. The dynamics are also excellent, especially with the right amplifier, like Audio-gd master 19, or like Mytek Brooklyn DAC+.

As primarily a speaker guy, I'm sure this little planar will keep me entertained for another 4-5 years, especially in rotation with my Elex. This being said, the end product and the final result is largely different, and the headphone you get from each couldn't be more different. Since they have pretty much the same build quality as Sundara I can confirm that they survived the same tests. One thing that should be noted is that the HE6se V2 scales with more powerful amplifiers, and I found that the Feliks Audio Euforia MK I had enough power to play the HE6se V2 beautifully. I have Geshelli Erish a very highly considered amp that is 1 watt per channel and it clips badly with the HE’s.The LCD-4 has, again, got better detail retrieval but with lower energy and punch they sound a little reserved and almost boring in comparison, whilst being a superb headphone in their own right. A lot has changed since I last delved into the audiophile community, and one of those things is the prevalence of EQ these days.

A new look, a more comfortable headand, a universal connector and a highly polished aluminium styling brought an old design a new flair.

HiFiMAN managed to strike the ideal balance: bass is present, almost authoritative and imposing (but in a very good way! Furthermore, most HIFIMAN Headphones are fairly comfortable, with headphones like Arya making competition for HD800S in terms of comfort, and with Sundara being both light and wear-able in pretty rough conditions. The earpads, although a bit small, are very comfortable, they are cushioned with a textile material, rather than pure leather or pleather on the inside. I wasn’t paid or asked to say anything good or bad about this product, all of the above is just my personal, unbiased opinion. Connectors, so any HIFIMAN cables should work, and you should also be able to use them with some Beyerdynamic Cables, as well as some Meze Cables.

So after 2 weeks and over easily 40+ hours of listening, I’d like to finally share my thoughts and impressions on this legendary headphone’s successor. You’re free to think this is “superfluous superficial shit”, I think this is pretty down-to-Earth thinking. Rather, you hear every little bit of texture, every single intricacy, and even nuance, He6SE is really good at revealing all of those to you. Imaging is one thing the HE6SE excel at, with pinpoint accuracy when it comes to placing instruments. g. have more bass, or sub-bass, or treble, or whatever), or if you think that more power will make them change in any significant way… then think again, and think harder.

This doesn't mean they will hit the sweet spot for absolutely everyone, but if you want this kind of presentation, they should really hit the spot.

You shouldn’t need the HE-Adapter with amps ranging for around 50-100wpc but it might be safer to use it if you don’t want to risk damaging your headphones. I mean, the headphone itself would be pretty portable, despite the slightly increased weight when compared to Sundara, you could simply strap a Sundara cable to HE6SE and take it with you, if you found anything that would be capable of driving them properly. An extra carrying case will be 30 to 50 USD, and a good aftermarket cable may run for 100 USD, so you could get the headphone of your dreams for less than 2000 USD, and have an end-game headphone for that money. About the HE6se v2, I drive them with the Schiit magnius and like it, though I could use a little more headroom as I am usually at 11-1ish listening volume. At the end for the day, I find myself listening to my Focal headphones more than the HE6se based on what I perceive as greater articulation, tighter resolution (and range) of sound. And since HE6SE comes with a really long cable, that may feel a bit uncomfortable for some, I expect that questions about where to get replacement cables exist, which is why I'm happy HIFIMAN went with such a popular socket format. With He6SE, it is the kind of headphone, where you know that you have to have it, the first time you hear it. The Arya is part of the new styling that stems from that 1st glimpse of the large teardrop design that was introduced for the HE1000 series. Now with HE6SE all those tests won't really be necessary, as they are a headphone made to be worn inside.
