But, at the same time, he’s introduced to the audience as an undercover DEA agent who, along with his partner Dawson, is on a mission to end Asa’s antics once and for all.)

Spice Level: We don’t feel we can appropriately rate the spice level of this book, given the sexual assault content. A psychological suspense novel of obsession and dangerous love. The definitive edition of Too Late from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Verity .So I leave GR for a bit because real life sometimes exists and I hate it. Then I get a message from my bookpushing bestie giving me a 'gentle' nudge to read this book. This little free book surprised me. Colleen Hoover's books are usually full of angst but overall they feature 'goody-goody' characters. A psychological suspense novel of obsession and dangerous love. The new, updated edition of Too Late from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Verity.

I liked Sloan, she was a great heroine. You see Sloan is strong, even though she didn’t think so. She wanted out of her relationship with Asa but if she leaves her brother, Steven won’t be able to receive services to help him physical and mentally. Asa is paying thousands of dollars a month to cover his expenses for treatment. She puts up with a lot from Asa from physical and mental abuse to being him in house sex slave (her term, not mine).

When I read that Too Late would be “different than anything CoHo has ever written before” my reaction was pretty much . . . heres a discussion question for you all: at what point are you allowed to negatively rate a work of fiction because there are certain aspects you morally disagree with? additionally, at what point are you allowed to overlook those personal objections because the overall concept/idea of the story is just so dang interesting? this is the dilemma i am currently facing. Sloan is having a baby and she doesn’t know who the daddy is. I hoped it was Luke’s baby. But my hopes and dreams feel when I found out Asa was tampering with Sloan’s birth control pills. Asa wanted Sloan to be pregnant because he figured there was no way she would leave him if they had a baby together. For her fan base, Hoover has also made available a novella for free called Finding Cinderella. How unusual for an author to provide a “thank you “ to their fans for continued support. This is the beauty of internet marketing and social media. Even tough Finding Cinderella is a sequel of sorts, it can stand alone too as its own work. Hopeless Too Late is uniquely both an old and new book of Hoover’s. Let me explain: Too Late“has been self-published in several formats over the past 10 years. But it has now been edited and revised and this is the definitive mainstream version – much-sought-after among her completist fans.” ( Source)

I attempt to pull my hands out from beneath his, but he squeezes them tighter, reminding me that I'm nothing more than a prisoner in my own bed, and he's the warden of the bedroom. Asa has always had a way of making me feel like my body was at his disposal. He's never mean or forceful about it; he's just needy-and I find it really inconvenient. Too Late by Colleen Hoover was an interesting book in that it’s one of two in her catalog (the other being Verity) with very dark messages and undertones. Untangling stories of the past is a recurring theme in Hoover’s writing and she doesn’t disappoint here. By the end of the trilogy, it is apparent that the future rests on how well Layken and Will manage to deal with their pasts, together. Other Books Asa claims he shot the man who was with Sloan during the fake FBI raid in self-defense, and the judge dismisses the case. When CoHo released this book, she suggested that this story would be a little edgier and darker than her other reads. I’m really keeping it pretty with this one but it might come off like I’m being messy but trust me, I’m not. Asa goes upstairs to retrieve Sloan, but as she is trying to escape the “agent” in charge of her, the “agent” kisses her to try and subdue her. Upon seeing this, Asa shoots the “agent” dead. It’s at this point that Asa enters the room and the agents depart. It’s revealed that Luke has been set up — the agents were all hired by Asa, and this was Asa’s way of getting Luke to come clean and learn why he has really been around lately.

The agents of large publishing houses are starting to take a closer look at self-publishing sales. These are indicators of trends and have led to a new category for publishers to consider, that of young adult romance fiction. Too Late was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay darker than I thought it was possible for Hoover to go. I mean, have you seen her? She’s farking adorable.Asa’s need to control Sloan and keep her near him intensifies. He proposes to her and promises to get the two of them out of the house and into their own place. He buys her a gaudy engagement ring she would have never chosen, and when she doesn’t wear it one single time, Asa physically superglues the ring onto her finger. The lengths to which he will go to keep Sloan by his side are downright frightening. Colleen Hoover put EVERYTHING into Too Late….let me tell ya. It held this my attention for sure, which is not an easy task. The title, Slammed, is a reference to poetry readings which are called “Slammings” at coffee houses and cafes where they are featured. In this story we meet Layken, an 18 year old forced into the new setting of small town Michigan after being raised in Texas. but can all that allow me to forget that i cant stand the way mental illness is portrayed in this and hows its harmfully used as a plot device to further develop a certain character as a villain? i am all for hating characters if they are large pieces of trash and have no redeemable qualities. but i dont know if i can promote, even condone, a story which utilises the actions of an untreated mental illness as a way to get the reader to hate a character. if anything, i just felt sad and sympathetic for them towards the end, hating the way the other characters treated him, instead. I think the only option I really have left is to shoot Luke in his goddamn smug face and get Sloan out of here while I still can. Sure, she’s going to be a little traumatized. But we could go to therapy or something whenever we get settled again. She’s going to need it after being brainwashed like she was.
